H.E. Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia, wishes to inform the public and the national and international media as follows:
On the morning of Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 08:40 AM, the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) facilitated the inaugural mission of the Head of Mission of the ASEAN Observer Team (HOM AOT) under the Philippine mandate as ASEAN Chair. The mission’s purpose was to observe, verify, and report on the border situation at the Temple of Preah Vihear in Choam Ksan District, Preah Vihear Province, a World Heritage Site of the highest value to humanity, which sustained severe damage during attacks by the Thai military in 2025 and to assess recent regional developments.
The presence of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) in leading the observation, verification, and assurance of the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire is intended to enhance transparency, accountability, and mutual trust between Cambodia and Thailand. These efforts aim to facilitate a rapid recovery and a return to normalcy, peace, stability, and lasting security along the border. Cambodia continues to provide its full support to the AOT and underscores the indispensable importance of strengthening the Team’s role and mandate.
The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia reaffirm their firm, sincere, and integrity-driven commitment to the full and strict implementation of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) dated December 27, 2025; the Joint Statement on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand dated October 26, 2025; and all other relevant agreements. These actions are directed toward ensuring a swift recovery and restoring normalcy, peace, stability, and safety for the citizens living along the borders of both nations.
